He answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself. “ Luke 10:27

There are many opportunities at First Christian Church Oskaloosa for you to connect and grow with God and other members.  We are committed to many community outreach endeavors, including, but not limited to the following:

SHARE Iowa  (Self Help And Resource Exchange)

SHARE Iowa, Inc. brings people together to build and strengthen community through volunteer service by providing access to good, nutritious food at affordable prices. We are committed to supporting local neighborhood host sites where all may participate, serve and lead with dignity.

Crop Walk

Raises money for world hunger with 25% going to Ecumenical Cupboard in Oskaloosa. Usually held in October. Planning teams meet twice usually in the summer.

Ecumenical Cupboard

The Ecumenical Cupboard has been a part of our community since 1983 and is staffed completely by volunteers. It provides emergency food and personal items to residents of Mahaska County. Located at 205 South D Street

End-of-Month meals

This is an outreach program for the church to the community. Provides people meals at the end of the month when their money is getting low. Meals are available the last week of each month, rotating among six different churches in Oskaloosa, including First Christian Church.  Volunteers are always welcome to help serve the meals.

Relay for Life

The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life is a unique celebration of life in honor and in memory of those whose lives have been touched by cancer. First Christian Church Oskaloosa has a team that walks in shifts all night.  The event is held in July.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with people in need to build and renovate decent, affordable housing. Volunteers provide most of the labor. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor into building their homes. Volunteers are always needed.

Mission Trips

First Christian Church actively seeks opportunities for members to reach out beyond our community to help other communities in practical and spiritual ways. Past trips have included rebuilding homes in flood-ravaged Waterloo, and tornado-stricken Parkersburg and Joplin, MO. A group also traveled abroad to Poland.
